History

In the 1930's , Stefan Mangold developed the original LI-LO product to overcome the problems facing troops in the field, formerly required to bunk down on straw palliasses or similar moisture-absorbing materials. The idea caught on for private, as well as military use and despite several changes of ownership of the brand, production and marketing have continued to this day.

Initially a rubberised cotton material, most airbed products use welded vinyl with internal air-coils to create considerably greater comfort. Improved air-valves, internal pump systems and soft velour finishes have also improved convenience, durability and reliability.

Today, The LI-LO brand extends to a whole variety of air mattresses types. It also includes auxilliary pumps, self-inflating mats and pillows, solar-showers, dry-bags.

The term "LI-LO" is often used today as a general description for an airbed, but this is actually both misleading and illegal, because LI-LO remains a registered brand.
